Interpretation of the BLUE canvas

The BLUE canvas represents people as part of and the history of the production process as well as the products which have been produced by General Motors.

The interpretation does not represent General Motors, but only the artist's point of view.

GM employees are the focal point of the canvas, as they have been integral to its history of designing, engineering, and manufacturing cars and trucks, and in the past airplanes and Diesel engines for trains. Highlighted across the canvas are machinery and equipment to represent the production process

The window behind the worker features a brick wall to represent factories from the 1930’s – 1950s timeframe. In contrast, the window behind the modern "controller" gives a view of the future and GM’s continued role as manufacturer of vehicles.

The middle of the canvas shows Detroit at night sometime in the future. We don't know, what means of transportation are going to be produced then, but it's likely, that we are still going to be in motion supported by General Motor products.

In the middle, from the top left down.faint waves can be detected. They represent signals sent out by the GPS (global positioning satellite) systems and are used to guide drivers through the grid of streets (bottom to middle right), choosing the least congested and fastest routes to a destination.

On the top right, a moon reminds of the involvement of General Motors in the 1969 Apollo 11 mission, for which the company manufatured the guidance and navigation systems. Beneath the moon: more assembly lines endlessly reproducing cars and car parts.
